BLACK SPOT DPN (DERMATOSIS PAPULA NIGRICANS) REMOVAL
WHAT ARE D.P.N. AND HOW ARE THEY FORMED?
DPN stand for dermatosis pigmentary nigricans. They are tiny black raised spots, seen generally on face. They are formed due to sun exposure and ageing.
HOW CAN THEY BE TREATED?
Co2 laser or radiofrequency would ablate the superficial layer of skin would help. Since DPN are formed in very superficial layers of skin, when skin layer is ablated its takes off the pigment along with it leaving a clearer skin.
WILL CREAMS AND PILLS WORK?
No pills or creams would work. Ablative lasers are the way out. Single session would remove them permanently.
IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?
Since done after application of numbing cream, procedure is rendered comfortable.
ARE THEIR ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Procedure is safe provided done by an expert using good quality equipment. Since its a very superficial treatment , where we don’t have to penetrate deep into skin, treatment is rendered safe.
IS THEIR ANY DOWNTIME/ POST TREATMENT HEALING TIME?
Yes, immediately post treatment there would be redness and swelling around each DPN where laser has been given. It would be totally gone by next day morning. Tiny black crust would appear at each spot, which would fall own it’s own in 5 to 7 days time leaving clear skin behind. Don’t prick the crusts with nails. Let them fall off own its own.
WILL THEY RECUR?
New ones can keep occurring since the causative factor is sun exposure and ageing. If new ones come get them removed. New ones comes very slowly over years, not within months.
SUMMARY: DPN are tiny black spots on face formed due to sun and ageing . They can be safely removed with single session of laser.
